Tess Griggs from The Little Edi Foundation – Shoebox appeal came to our assembly this morning once again to speak to the children about their Shoebox appeal and to remind us that Christmas is just around the corner!
Mrs Griggs has been working with an orphanage in Moldova; they are in an area where homes do not have electricity or running water. Parents can’t find work and the children are often hungry and cold.
We have been so generous in past years and Tess is always so pleased to take our shoeboxes out to Moldova. Please could we help again this year, by filing a shoe box with treats for a Moldovan child?
She gave us some hints as to what the children would be happy to find in the box they receive:
- soap, face cloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush or comb, shampoo,
- gloves, hats, socks, hair accessories,
- ball, small cuddly toys, marbles, junk jewellery, sweets, bubbles
- crayons, pens, note books, etc.,
of course any item you think suitable will be great (no battery operated items).
Feel free to add a photograph of your child and/or a letter or card to add a personal touch.
When covering your shoe box in beautiful paper please remember to wrap the lid separately from the box. This is because the children will treasure their boxes and also so that customs can inspect the boxes. Please stick on a label to say whether the gift is for a boy or a girl and what age it is suitable for (3 to 7 or 7 to 11 years old).
All the boxes need to be filled and returned by Tuesday 5th November (first Tuesday after half term) and handed to the charity representatives in the Foyer for collection by Tess later.
We are going to try and build a Gift Wall in our Foyer! Our target is 200 boxes or more because that is how many we filled last year.
We are also planning to donate unwanted school shoes, trainers and school uniform on an ongoing basis, but will write to you separately regarding this.
