Early Years Foundation Stage

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support they need to enable them to reach their full potential

Our Early Years Foundation Stage incorporates the learning, development and care of your child from the age of two and a half to five years old. Children develop quickly in the early years and high quality learning, combined with first class development and support, provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow.

At Widford Lodge, our Early Years Foundation stage is comprised of Pre-School and Reception and focuses on preparing your child for school through carefully planned activities. These are structured around seven key areas of learning found in The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

We provide a happy and stimulating start to school life.  Indoor and outdoor classrooms are bright, spacious and engaging, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the support of caring, enthusiastic and well qualified staff.

Pre-School

Children are encouraged to develop their skills, confidence and self-esteem and    develop a positive attitude towards learning. Children are encouraged to explore their ideas, be inquisitive and put their creative talents to imaginative use

Our Pre-School incorporates the learning, development and care of your child from the age of two and a half to four years old.  Planned activities encourage social interaction with others and build confidence, instilling a love of school and learning.

Reception

All children start in Reception in September and spend the year with us before  moving into Year 1 in Pre-Prep. We aim to make transitions as smooth as possible by working closely with parents and previous staff members, ensuring continuity and progression.

Our Reception provides a secure foundation for learning for children aged four and five.

As the children enter the first year of their schooling career at Widford they learn to read, write and develop their mathematics knowledge and skills through carefully planned activities tailored to each individual’s learning journey.

Our purpose built building with indoor and outdoor facilities promotes learning about the world around us and is an ideal setting for our dedicated staff to support the development of children’s social, communication and language skills.

We believe learning happens best when children lead based on their interests and their thirst to find out more is ignited. Learning is fun and purposeful and encourages collaborative working, builds confidence and provides a platform for children to grow into critical thinkers who can tackle challenges.
