Friends of Widford Lodge (FOWL) are a voluntary group of parents who raise funds for the school, as well as local and national charities, through various events in order to further enrich the children’s learning experience.
FOWL organised events in the past have included:
- Annual Widford Lodge Summer Fayre.
- End of school year inflatable afternoon.
- Christmas market.
- Children created Christmas cards and gifts.
- Mother’s Day pop up shop donating to Young Minds Charity.
- Father’s Day gift sale donating to Prostate Cancer UK.
- Bake sale for Macmillan Cancer.
Funds raised by FOWL through such events are then used to contribute towards school equipment such as the all-weather sports surface, wooden gazebo, outdoor tables, hockey and playground sports equipment as well as new staging for the school hall.
In addition, funds are put towards visiting speakers and workshops, which have included:
- Forensic science day.
- 2 Johns online safety talk made to children, teachers and parents.
- Creative writing pirate visitor.
- Visits from a Polar explorer.
- Drumming workshops.
The FOWL team also take great delight in hosting and funding events for the children such as visits from Father Christmas and live reindeer, festive parties led by children’s entertainers and Easter egg hunts with the help of the real Easter bunny!
SECOND HAND UNIFORM SALES
Historically, FOWL hold a second-hand uniform sale once a term where children are always welcome and which offers a great opportunity to meet other families at the school.
Additionally, parents are very welcome to view and purchase uniform directly from FOWL during the course of the school year by making an appointment via e-mail: fowlcontact@aol.com
Parents are encouraged to donate any pre-loved school uniform in good condition to FOWL in order that funds generated at sales may then contribute towards future activities or school equipment.
YOUR PARTICIPATION
Parent support is so important in the success of FOWL and we look forward to seeing you at our events and fundraisers, but what else can you do?……
- Showcase your baking skills! We always need cakes for our school fayres.
- Donate raffle prizes.
- Suggest ideas for fund raising.
VOLUNTEERS
We generally have a FOWL representative for each year group and also always need extra hands at our events and therefore are grateful for any help you are able to give whenever you are available.
