On Saturday 10th June, two Widford swimming teams attended the MEPSSA Swimming Gala at Riverside pool in Chelmsford. They took part in a number of individual races as well as medley and freestyle relays. At the end of the evening, both teams were involved in the squadron relay, where the top two teams from each section swam eight of their team in a relay race.
In their section, the A team finished in first position, retaining their trophy from last year, and the B team came second.
All of the swimmers performed brilliantly, although special mentions must go to Oliver, Zoë (who’d completed a triathlon that morning), Jacob, Gracie and Boys’ Captain Dylan , who all won their races, along with the A team Boys’ Freestyle team.
The following day Dylan, and Amelia in Form 4, competed at the Virgin Active South East England regional finals. Dylan won gold medals in Butterfly, Back Crawl and Freestyle and was just beaten in the Breaststroke. His relay team also came first. Amelia won golds in all four of her individual races in her Under 10 events. Fabulous news!
The Prep School swimming gala takes place on Wednesday 5th July, where I’m sure you’ll see some more exciting swimming!
